Richard E. HarrisRichard was born in Tokyo, Japan, where his father was stationed while serving in the United States Air Force.  He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1993 and the Texas Bar in 1994.   He has practiced law continuously in Georgia since 1994, first with a boutique litigation firm in Norcross, where he handled a wide range of civil litigation matters for both plaintiffs and defendants.  He joined Taylor Jones as an associate in 1999, and in 2002, the firm became Jones, Jensen & Harris when he and Jenny Jensen became partners with Mr. Jones.

His practice has focused extensively on civil litigation, including more than a dozen jury trials, and numerous successful appeals.  Among his professional accomplishments, he briefed and argued the widely publicized Georgia Supreme Court decision in Barnes v. Turner, 278 Ga. 788 (2004), which resulted in a 4-3 ruling in his client’s favor on an issue of first impression nationwide concerning the statute of limitations in legal malpractice cases.  Richard has spoken at continuing legal education seminars on legal ethics and legal malpractice, and he has been designated with the highest rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell, indicating that his peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence. In addition to his experience as a trial lawyer, Richard is a trained mediator.

He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Georgia in 1985, then served as an officer in the United States Air Force from 1985 through 1990.  He is a 1993 graduate with honors of the University of Texas Law School, where he was Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review and was named Outstanding Teaching Quizmaster of the Year by faculty, peers, and students.
